About Signworks Sportswear
We've Been Getting You Noticed Since 2003!
The Signworks Sportswear story began in the early 1990’s when Matt Alix, then 13, began fixing his dads racecar lettering when the cars got damaged. This evolved into hand lettering numerous cars each year. At 16 he began racing himself at Holland Speedway, and later became a 3 time NASCAR Champion.
Through this journey Matt met numerous business owners through sponsorships. Technology advanced and hand painting was replaced by computer cut vinyl graphics. Matts mom and dad, Art and Janice, gave him his first loan for the computer equipment. From there, the sign business snowballed, starting with racing contacts and growing to thousands of businesses and organizations throughout Western New York.
In 2003, Matt partnered with his parents to build the current 8500 square foot Signworks building. They added screen printing and embroidery by purchasing another company. This acquisition turned Signworks into Signworks Sportswear.
This created the one stop shop that it is today. Along the way, John Emilianowicz started as a designer from right out of graphic design school. Matt had a very hard time relinquishing the design aspect of the business. However, John showed from day one that he was more than just a designer. He now is the company’s Vice President of Operations and oversees the entire apparel side of the business.
