1982
Mark-Art began as a basement sign painting business.
Although focused on cardboard & small wood signs, we saw
a large demand
for printed textiles....
|
|
1983
Leased a retail store front at 16 W. Main St., Lockport,
N.Y.
Selling stock heat transfers ( Iron-on ) & printed textiles.
After 2 years of long
store hours,
and mega-bucks in inventory.
We decided that we should target our
business to wholesale customers.
|
|
1984
T-Shirt Parties become popular.
Selling in T-Shirt parties that were run very much like a Tupperware
party, Armed
with only a
small rack of samples and a hand full
of catalogs, we sold stock heat
transfers (Iron-on) on textiles.
Had to get rid of that inventory somehow.

1986
Purchase a 3,000 Sq. Ft. light industrial building.
99 Robinson Place became the new home of Mark-Art. After quickly
remodeling our
new facility we were open for business. Equipment:
Manual 1-Color shirt press,
manual 1-color hat press, and a
12" by 12" spot dryer.
|
|
1987
Purchase a manual 4-Color shirt press & Conveyor
dryer.
Finely... a higher standard of print quality. It's like starting
all over again.
|
|
1989
Purchase a manual 8-Color shirt press & Large Spot Dryer.
Several years will pass now as we learn to master large, vivid,
multi-color prints on
dark colored
garments. Many 6
& 8 color designs are developed with out the aid of
computers.
|
|
1990
Purchase a used Gerber sign maker with 6 fonts (vinyl cutter)
Our focus once again changes as the demand for fast inexpensive
signs increase.
This is the dawn
of the computer age in the sign
industry.
|
|
1991
Purchase a Photo Exposure System for Screen Making.
The transition from film to direct emulsion takes some getting
use to. This change
enables us to use HALFTONES to create lighter
shades of any color, on light and
dark colored garments.
|
|
1993
Purchase our first Computer Design Station.
486/66 C.P.U. (hey, this was as fast as they came back then)14"
Monitor,
Microtek Scanner, large format Laser Printer, &
an Ioline studio 8/30" vinyl cutter.
Major boost in design &
print quality. The speed in which positives are generated
and accuracy of
separations are truly amazing. We begin to print process (CMYK)
designs on light colored garments. As well as incorporate
HALFTONES
& overlays
on dark colored garments.
|
|
1998
Upgrade to Pentium 233 & HP Large Format Laser Printer.
As we continue to maintain our equipment & become more efficient
in its use.
We pledge to provide
the highest quality textile
screen printing on your garments.
Most of our signs come with
a 5 year
guarantee against chipping, fading, & pealing
under
normal conditions.
